Early intervention orthodontics (often called Phase 1 treatment) focuses on evaluating and treating structural jaw growth and bite issues in young children while they still have a mix of primary and permanent teeth.
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that every child have their first orthodontic screening by age 7. By this age, the first permanent molars and incisors have usually erupted, allowing an orthodontist to identify potential developmental issues early.
Primary Goals of Phase 1
Rather than focusing purely on straightening teeth, Phase 1 takes advantage of a child’s active growth phase to guide jaw development and create sufficient space.

Guide Jaw Growth: Correct uneven growth between the upper and lower jaws (e.g., severe underbites or overbites).

Create Space: Expand narrow dental arches to prevent severe crowding and reduce the risk of impacted permanent teeth (like canines).

Prevent Trauma: Realign severely protruding front teeth that are vulnerable to accidental chipping or fracture.

Intervene in Oral Habits: Correct structural damage caused by prolonged thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, or mouth breathing.
Appliances Used
Invisalign Palatal Expander (IPE) - Gently widens the upper jawbone before the midpalatal suture fuse. Helps to correct crossbites, severe upper arch narrowness, & crowding.
Partial Braces / Clear Aligners - Aligns specific erupting permanent incisors. Severe rotations, traumatic deep bites, functional interference.

Every last one of them. They were worth every penny i spent. Can't wait for my son to start his treatment.Update my son has started and will be moving on to his retainers soon.
